Introduction

Introduction 
Approximately 108 million dollars are spent yearly in the United States, that goes towards treating and preventing the health conditions related to poor oral health, including caries, periodontal disease, and oral cancer. The purpose of this blog is to have evidence based data that supports the need to continue our efforts to create good habits of oral care through education. An effective educational endeavor, at an early age, will not only prevent caries, but could also serve as a cost effective measure that will prevent pain and suffering. These measures will prevent many related chronic condition offering a healthy and happy life. 

Common Problems Associated with Oral Care

Dental diseases is among one of the most prevalent chronic illness that has a direct impact on the social, physical, and psychological well being of our society. Per the Center of Disease Control and prevention (2014) “Periodontal disease and tooth decay are the two biggest threats to dental health.” This condition could affect all ages and all socio-economic layers, but the most affected are the under served groups. The ranges of this condition begins affecting children early in life in a form of caries developing later into periodontal conditions to more serious conditions.

Resources for Parent Education about oral care - Time to get involved



Increased awareness, proper education and involvement of parents may lead to early diagnosis and prevention of common oral conditions. Mouradian (2001) suggested that oral examination at early child hood stage and education about oral health conditions may result in identification of oral diseases at an early stage. Realizing the importance of education regarding oral health our team has compiled list of resources that may help in raising awareness about common oral diseases and prevention strategies.
